CHARTROOM DERBY / THE RULEBOOK

A clear table makes a generous game.

Visible pieces and complete sentences are small acts of hospitality.

Give each kind of piece a home

Keep active event markers in the centre, score chips in view and unused dock options together. Resolved cards can sit separately from the next draw so their role is obvious.

These are organisational habits. They do not create a new inventory, add resources or replace the original movement and scoring conditions.

Announce the next change

Say the boat, the destination and the instruction being resolved. A short announcement lets another crew notice a misunderstanding before it becomes the next turn’s starting position.

Use names as well as colours when referring to pieces. Anchor, Comet and Drift each have a distinct subject, which helps the table discuss them without relying on colour alone.

Make rereading ordinary

Any crew can ask to hear a card again. Read it together and calmly replay an uncertain action under the original clear-table rule.

If a group wants to experiment with house rules, agree those separately before play. This edition continues to describe the supplied Chartroom Derby rules.
